The paper processing process usually runs at very high speeds, sometimes the speed of the roll-to-roll machine can reach 400 m/min. Laser cutting is achieved by sublimation, which removes material without melting. Paper and card materials generally respond well to the CO2 laser wavelength range, so the cutting process is fast, reliable, and of good quality.
The figure below shows that the processing (paper cutting) speed is proportional to the laser power used, so doubling the processing speed usually requires twice the power. It also shows that, based on the composition and weight of the paper, the cutting speed of the 9.3µm wavelength is 20% faster than the 10.6µm laser. It is recommended to use Luxinar's SR series and OEM 45iX sealed CO2 laser sources for these 9.3µm wavelength high-speed paper conversion applications.
In addition, the laser process allows complex designs to be cut easily and accurately, and designs can be changed or modified effortlessly. The non-contact nature of the process means that delicate designs, such as those required for greeting cards and fine stationery, will not be deformed or distorted during the cutting process.
Luxinar application laboratory is equipped with CO2 lasers with wavelengths of 10.6µm and 9.3µm.
